A Comparison Of Your Brand to HealthyPetNet Life's Abundance.

You really can't use a comparison chart to find the difference in pet food. There are other factors that need to be considered. The quality and freshness of ingredients, where the products are manufactured, how long they are stored before they are sold on the market, and so on...

The recent recalls of pet food products have many people looking for safe and nutritious alternatives for their pets. Are you searching for a product that you can feel good about giving your pet?

If you would like to see charts you can find some here:

Here's How To Compare Your Brand
To HealthyPetNet Life’s Abundance

Without using a comparison chart.

1. Get your bag of food. Look for the Ingredient Statement on the label.

2. Compare and Read the first 5 ingredients. They play a significant role in the nutritional make-up of a food. What are the protein sources? We believe the primary source should come from quality animal protein, not vegetable protein or grain. Foods that list 2 or more grains in the first 5 ingredients may have more vegetable protein than animal protein.

Life’s Abundance primary protein is chicken meal. Why? Because chicken meat contains a certain amount of moisture; however, chicken meal is a concentrated source of chicken protein because most of the water has been removed. Therefore, it stands to reason that you get a greater “protein content” in 1 pound of chicken meal versus 1 pound of chicken.

What about grains? Two or more grains listed in the first 5 ingredients means your food may have more vegetable protein than animal protein. Grains such as soy, corn, corn gluten and wheat gluten can be difficult to digest, which means in comparison less nutrition and more clean up.

Life’s Abundance lists only 1 grain in the first five ingredients, ground brown rice.

Are there by-products? Some manufacturers consider by-products inferior sources of protein and, depending on the source, they can be difficult to digest.

Life’s Abundance does NOT contain by-products ingredients. is one of most important comparison of all; make sure your brand does not have by-products.

What are the fat sources? Some fats are better than others. In comparison we believe the primary fat source in dog food should be animal based because animal fats contain a profile of fatty acids that are easily metabolized and thus are generally more available to the body.

Life’s Abundance contains chicken fat.

3. Does your food contain other health-promoting ingredients, such as: Vegetables, Beet fiber, Antioxidants, Proteinated Minerals, Bacteria cultures?

Your pet deserves the very best food. How is the comparison going?

I know it is hard to decide as to which dog or cat food to buy for your "best friend", and also who to trust. Although you may think all pet food manufacturers have your pet’s best interests in mind, this is not always the case. Current pet food regulations allow manufacturers to use ingredients that you would never knowingly give to your pet.

Comparison the major differences in our food from other brands.

Without even knowing what food you currently use, I can tell you that Life's Abundance is completely different:

First, we do not sell our foods in your local pet food store. The reason is that most foods become spoiled or tainted by unsafe distribution practices. Most foods are kept in trucks or warehouses with no climate control for up to 8 months. This is why we ship Fresh to your door. This is another important comparison.

Second, we never use less than human quality ingredients. Most pet foods still use ingredients that are unfit for human consumption. This helps keep their costs down, but it costs your pet their good health.

Third, we are constantly upgrading our foods with the latest in health technology. For example, we use Live Pro-Biotics to support intestinal health, Chelated Minerals for better absorption, Meats with no hormones or steroids, fresh fruits and vegetables, USDA manufacturing facilities, and more. As you may have already realized, Life's Abundance is not like any other food on the market, as you can see there is no comparison.

Below are some meanings and comparison of the ingredients found in pet food. I hope you find them helpful in making the right choice of what to feed your "best friend".

Poultry Meal/Chicken Meal/Feed Grade Poultry Meal is by-products from the poultry rendering industry. Poultry Meal and Chicken Meal are core components in many of today's popular pet foods. These products are typically 65% Protein and 12-18% ash, depending on the pet food manufacturer's specifications. Feed Grade Poultry meal is typically a 60% protein product.

PROTEINS - the primary source of protein in all pet foods (except for weight loss formulas) should come from animal protein, not vegetable protein or grains. Look for an identifiable animal protein such as "chicken meal" rather a generic term; such as, "poultry meal," which
can contain any fowl (turkey, chicken, geese, etc.).

CHICKEN MEAL in comparison with CHICKEN? Some manufacturers use chicken in their pet foods; however, we prefer to use Chicken Meal. Because chicken meat contains a certain amount of moisture in the flesh; however, chicken meal is a concentrated source of chicken protein because most of the water has been removed. Therefore, it only stands to reason that you get a greater “protein content” in 1 pound of chicken meal versus 1 pound of chicken.

(We use only naturally grown chicken for our chicken meal - every batch is made using a slow roasting method that allows the fat and water to be released as the chicken cooks, creating a concentrated, highly-digestible protein and fat source.)

Chicken Meal - chicken which has been ground or otherwise reduced in particle size.

Chicken By-Product Meal - consists of the ground, rendered, clean parts of the carcass of slaughtered chicken, such as necks, feet, undeveloped eggs and intestines, exclusive of feathers, except in such amounts as might occur unavoidable in good processing practice. There is no comparison to this ingredient; it should not be used at all.

Chicken - the clean combination of flesh and skin with or without accompanying bone, derived from the parts or whole carcasses of chicken or a combination thereof, exclusive of feathers, heads, feet and entrails.

Poultry By-Product Meal - consists of the ground, rendered, clean parts of the carcass of slaughtered poultry, such as necks, feet, undeveloped eggs, intestines, exclusive of feathers, except in such amounts as might occur unavoidably in good processing practices.

GRAINS - Some manufacturers use grains; such as, soy, corn, corn gluten and wheat gluten as protein sources. Additionally, these grains can be difficult to digest. Low digestibility in comparison means less nutrition and more clean up. Foods that list 2 or more grains in the first 5 ingredients may have more vegetable protein than animal protein.

Corn Meal, Corn Gluten Meal, Corn Oil: Corn is indigestible to dogs, due to their short intestine. Is common allergens for dogs and can cause dry, itchy skin, hair loss or dullness, lack of energy, chronic ear problems and chewing at the feet.

Corn or corn meal is low cost filler that dog food manufacturers use to save money. Corn passes right through your dog with little to no nutritional value. If your dog food lists corn as the first or second ingredient, you are paying for up to 25% filler in that food. Not only are you paying for a filler, you are also having more dog stools in your yard. The presence of fillers tells you what the manufacturer thinks of their food. How's that for a comparison?

There is a difference in rice also:

Brewer's Rice is the small milled fragment of rice kernels that have been separated from the larger kernels of milled rice. Brewer's rice is a lower quality rice product that is missing many of the nutrients found in ground rice and ground brown rice. It is basically a waste product of the alcohol industry.

Brown Rice/Ground Brown Rice means the Ground Brown Rice is the entire product obtained in grinding the rice kernels after the hulls have been removed. An excellent source of complex carbohydrates provides quick energy and is loaded with B vitamins and minerals.

Ground White Rice - Ground rice is the de-hulled rice kernel, ground or chopped, with the bran removed -- known as white rice.

Rice is a high quality source of carbohydrates. Rice is the most digestible grain for pet foods and is relatively hypo-allergenic.

Some manufacturers use rice fractions, such as rice polishing, rice bran, or brewer's rice, which have been leeched of much of their nutritional value. Brown rice comes from the same plant as white rice, but has the bran intact.

In comparison when feeding commercially prepared pet foods:

Did you know that the FDA does not regulate the pet food industry?

Did you also know that most commercial pet foods are made from less than human quality ingredients?

Did you know that most pet foods bought in the store have been sitting around for as long as 18 months before you buy it?

Did you know that dogs and cats have the genetic potential to live 20 - 25 years but we are robbing those years from their lives with cheap pet foods.

Here are just a few of the procedures that we follow to provide pets with a safe and nutritious product.

All the products are manufactured in a USDA facility, with USA ingredients.

All of our ingredients are individually inspected for human quality and carry the APHIS certification (a European standard for human quality ingredients)

Every vendor must supply an 'assurance statement' with each shipment. This statement must provide nutritional quality of ingredient provided AND must state it is free from any mold, bacteria, and so forth.

Our formulator Dr. Jane Bicks has the ingredients tested AGAIN before manufacturing to make sure the quality is as stated AND it meets her standards. The product is tested 3 times during the manufacturing process - to again to assure everything is 'as it should be'.

The product is tested again after manufacturing and again when it arrives at the warehouse. One bag of food is kept at the warehouse - from each batch - to test in case a Customer has a problem or concern with the product. Each 'one bag' from each batch is kept for 6 months.

The products are shipped directly from the warehouse to the Customer - no middleman warehousing (concerns of proper storage and pest control).

How are we doing on the comparison so far? Can you say all of that about your current brand of pet food?

Why should you consider changing to Life's Abundance?

Recent studies have shown processed foods to be a factor in increasing numbers of pets suffering from cancer, arthritis, obesity, dental disease and heart disease.

Harmful chemicals and preservatives are added to both wet and dry food. For example, sodium nitrite, a coloring agent and preservative and potential carcinogen, is a common additive. preservatives include ethoxyquin (insecticide that has been linked to liver cancer) and BHA and BHT, chemicals also suspected of causing cancer. The average dog can consume as much as 26 pounds of preservatives every year from eating commercial dog foods.

The primary ingredient in many dry commercial pet foods is not protein but cereal. Corn and wheat are the most common grains used but, as with the meat sources, the nutritious parts of the grain are generally present only in trace amounts. The corn gluten meal or wheat middling's added to pet foods are the leftovers after the grain has been processed for human use, containing little nutritional value. Or they may be grain that is too moldy for humans to eat, so it's incorporated into pet food.

Mycotoxins, potentially deadly fungal toxins that multiply in moldy grains, have been found in pet foods in recent years. In 1995, Nature's Recipe recalled tons of their dog food after dogs became ill from eating it. The food was found to contain vomitoxin, a mycotoxin.

In the news of January 2006, the FDA reported more than over 100 dogs nationwide are believed to have died as a result of eating contaminated pet food from a well-known Pet Food Company. This company has recalled 19 varieties of dog and cat food in 23 states. The toxin comes from a fungus found on corn and other crops. Unfortunately, there are many other dangers that can be associated with dog and cat food.

In the news of March 2007, there has been a massive recall of more than 90 brand names pet foods including the followings: America's Choice, Nutro, Purina, Iams, Eukanuba, Science Diet, O'l Roy just to name a few.

Another extensive recall included other products, which were cross-contaminated by wheat gluten containing melamine. And the contaminated rice protein concentrate was used in facilities operated by American Nutrition. None of our products are manufactured in any of the facilities where these contaminated ingredients were used. There is absolutely no danger that our foods were contaminated.

A then the recent wave of recalled pet foods – including foods made by Blue Buffalo, Costco, Natural Balance, Royal Canin and others – was due to contaminated rice protein concentrate. None of our products include this ingredient. The comparison is we do not use harmful ingredients.

To help your dog live a longer and happier life you might want to consider changing to an all natural dog food like Life's Abundance.

If for some reason you decide not to purchase our food, please make sure whatever brand you buy that it does not have corn, wheat or any kind of gluten in the ingredients. Also that it does not have by-products (feet, bones and intestines, etc.), chemical preservatives (BHA and BHT). Which are very harmful to your pet.

I hope this comparison helps you make the right decision for your pet. And that you know how to compare your pet's food.
